About this Workshop
Training psychologists to function as integrated behavioral health clinicians with advanced biomedical competence. Comprehensive head-to-toe assessment integrating patient history, vital signs, and diagnostic reasoning.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate the five-step patient-centered medical interviewing model during a simulated clinical encounter.
- Differentiate at least four open-ended versus closed-ended medical interview questions.
- List at least seven components of a comprehensive medical history.
- Accurately measure and record four vital signs using standard clinical instruments.
- Perform general inspection identifying at least five observable indicators of health status.
- Demonstrate palpation techniques across at least three organ systems.
- Perform cardiovascular auscultation across at least four standard heart listening points.
- Identify at least three abnormal heart sounds from clinical audio examples.
- Conduct pulmonary auscultation across at least six lung fields.
- Identify at least four abnormal respiratory sounds from clinical examples.
- Demonstrate proper use of at least four physical assessment instruments.
- Document examination findings using a structured SOAP clinical note format.
- Interpret at least five laboratory values relevant to psychiatric differential diagnosis.
- Develop at least three differential diagnoses based on integrated physical findings.
- Apply infection-control procedures during simulated patient examinations.
- Accurately measure blood pressure twice using proper cuff placement and technique.
