Greetings from the IPA Membership Committee! We hope you are finding joy and contentment in your summer activities. The Membership Committee focuses their efforts each year on three primary goals of IPA member recruitment, retention, and connection, and we provide an update each summer regarding the current state of association membership. Current committee members include:

Alissa Doobay, PhD Co-Chair

Suzanne Hull IPA Executive Director

Nicole Keedy, PhD Co-Chair

Jenna Paternostro, PhD Liaison to Early Career Psychologists Committee

Rachel Popek Student Member

David VanHorn, PhD IPA President Elect

The committee continues to benefit from ancillary members who assisted with encouraging renewals and contacting Lifetime members to inquire about continued active engagement in IPA. These members include:

Haley Downing, PhD

Ashley Freeman, PhD

Laura Fuller, PhD, ABPP

Lauren Garvin, PhD

Tianxin Wang, Student Representative

Carlos Mendieta, Student Representative Elect

The Membership Committees current Strategic Plan Worksheet, which guides committee efforts, is available for review in the overarching IPA Strategic Plan on our Member Resources site (requires your IPA login and password). The Membership Committee celebrated a number of accomplishments from the past year. Since last summer’s membership update, this committee has successfully assisted in the recruitment of 34 new members, including 12 student members. Additional IPA goals met or supported by the Membership Committee included:

  • Implementing new discounts for IPA leaders:
    • $100 membership discount for chairs and EC members
    • $300 membership discount for Triad members
  • Funding multiple social events to connect current and prospect association members
  • Connecting student members with mentors
  • Holding our annual drawing for which selected IPA leaders received gift cards in appreciation of their service
  • Hosting a fun and engaging trivia challenge at the Spring Conference
  • Awarding IPA merchandise with the new eye-catching logo to many lucky attendees at the Spring Conference

Each May, the Membership Committee Co-Chairs provide an update of membership numbers in the spreadsheets listed under the Member Resources tab of the IPA website.

We continue to celebrate a relatively high number (36%) of licensed psychologists living in Iowa as members of the association. For members who pay close attention to these figures, we updated the manner of calculating this figure to ensure accuracy by removing lifetime members who no longer carry licenses. This change led to what may appear to be a reduction from prior years but continues to be a strong value for a small state association. As listed below, our retention over the past year was high.

Last year, the Marketing Consultant Workgroup revealed updates to IPAs branding and website design. The Membership Continues to explore ways to retain a strong and engaged membership. We hope to continue engaging members in various efforts to strengthen the association. Thank you to all IPA leaders and members for your time and service to this essential organization. If you have not yet taken the step to become involved in IPA leadership, consider taking part in one of the most rewarding aspects of IPA membership. Please complete the following survey and one of the Membership Committee Co-Chairs will gladly help you find the right opportunity. We welcome contributions large and small; every bit helps!

Thank you all for being part of an association that helps us connect, learn, and support each other as we offer integral services to Iowans through the various challenges they (and we) may encounter along the way.
