The IPA Mentor Program offers student members the opportunity to have a mentor that closely matches their professional interests. You can personalize your request for a mentor to include things like finding a mentor in your geographic area or with your specific research or clinical interests!

Mentors and mentees commit to a one-year relationship, after which time the student may select a new mentor in order to have a variety of exposures to psychologists around the state.

What are the benefits of having an Iowa psychologist as your mentor?

• You can contact your mentor via email to ask questions related to professional development (coursework, practicum, training experiences, future employment, or preparing for graduate school)
• Your mentor will be available to have dinner or lunch with you at least one time per semester
• If you attend IPA Conferences or the APA Annual Convention, your mentor will introduce you to other psychologists and/or students.
• If you're interested, you can visit your mentor's workplace or school and shadow what a typical morning or afternoon might look like.

How do you get a mentor?

Print and complete the Mentee Application [2] indicating your preferences and send it to the IPA Central Office. You'll be connected with an IPA representative who will assist and guide you in finding a mentor. We'll match you with a mentor as soon as possible so you can start enjoying the benefits of working with a mentor!
